The Graphic Product course focuses upon visual and graphics communication skills and techniques. Activities undertaken use graphic media, ie card, paper, modelling foams and some resistant materials, to model prototypes of products solving real life situations.

Examination Details
Assessment : Coursework 60%. This consists of a final coursework project that shows all the skills and knowledge acquired over the course. The final product will take the form of a 3D model, supported by a folio of graphical/written evidence. The project will represent about 40 hours of supervised time.
Examination 40%. The written paper is designed to test understanding of making, applying appropriate systems and designing ability. A preparation sheet is issued on 1 March in the year of the exam, to highlight the design context to be covered in the exam paper.
Topics Taught
Graphic Techniques
Formal Drawings (using drawing boards & instruments), Isometric, Orthographic, 2D & 3D sketching. Use of tone, texture and colour. Modelling techniques with sheet and three dimensional materials. Displaying information with graphs and charts. Use of CAD and programmes to aid designing.
Use of Graphics
The design process. Packaging, Advertising and Product Design, visited through mini projects.
Further Graphical Knowledge and Skills
Use of CAD and other ICT tools as a design aid. Understanding and use of CAD/CAM and desktop publishing. Printing techniques. Detail & Sequence drawings. Use of and understanding about a range of graphical materials.
