Community Involvement

Below is a selection of our schools community involvement.

BRIDGE THE GAP:

"Bridge The Gap" is a project run by the Huddersfield Deanery since 1997. All Saints Catholic College's Y10 students work with senior citizens who are brought into school one afternoon per week when various activities are organised. The students serve refreshments to our visitors and help with escorting to and from the transport provided.

Whilst in school visitors are invited to talk and demonstrate their skills, flower arranging, reflexology, community police officer and armchair exercises and all the special days and holidays are celebrated in some way. The group also visit Asda each month so that the senior members can do their own shopping assisted by our students. Visits are also arranged out of school. Some of the places visited are Ponderossa, Shelly Garden Centre, UK Bowl and Kingsgate.

We shall be visiting Tolson Museum soon and of course on all our visits it is important for the senior members to have a "cuppa" and a chat. Students keep a diary and portfolio and have gone on to gain "The Mayors Award for Services to the Community" and been awarded Deanery Certificates for their work.

If you are a senior citizen and you wish to join us at All Saints Catholic College please contact the Deanery Project Leader "Joanne" at the Huddersfield Deanery Project Tel: 01484 300 094.

As a school we feel that our partnership with the Huddersfield Deanery Project, especially Bridge the Gap, not only enables our students to work with, and appreciate the difficulties many senior citizens have, but it enables us to widen our school community enabling us, hopefully, to enrich the lives of some of those less fortunate than ourselves. We hope the partnership will continue for it is a worthwhile part of our curriculum.'As a school we feel that our partnership with the Huddersfield Deanery Project, especially Bridge the Gap, not only enables our students to work with, and appreciate the difficulties many senior citizens have, but it enables us to widen our school community enabling us, hopefully, to enrich the lives of some of those less fortunate than ourselves.
