February 2010
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Here at All Saints we are very proud of our achievements. We set high standards in appearance, behaviour and work. The expectation is that students will rise to meet these standards and achieve to their full potential.
We have a college uniform which looks very smart when worn properly. This helps the students to look ready for the business of learning. It also prepares them for the world of work where many of them will have to follow a dress code.
It has come to my attention that whilst the majority of students make a real effort with their uniform, there are still many students who have to be constantly reminded about tucking in their shirts and keeping their top button fastened so that the tie can be worn correctly. In order to help improve this I would like you to ensure that your child has the correct type of shirt ready for college when we return after the February half term.
All students need to wear a proper white shirt with a collar that has a button. The shirt needs to be long enough to tuck into trousers or a skirt. The V-neck blouse worn by some girls is not appropriate because it was never designed to be worn with a tie. Likewise fitted blouses are too short and cannot be tucked into trousers or a skirt. Some students struggle to close the button because the shirt collar is too tight. I would appreciate it if you would check with your child that the collar fits properly and that the button can be fastened. We will be checking uniform when we return after half term. The expectation is that all students will be wearing the correct shirt, so that in turn, the tie can be worn properly.
I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that your child should also wear:
- Black socks
- Black school shoes (no pumps)
The grey jumper with our school badge is optional and should be worn underneath the blazer. Girls should ensure that if they choose to wear a skirt, then it should be knee length. Girls should not wear makeup for school and they are only allowed to wear one pair of small metal ear studs.
I am sure that you will do your best to support your child in keeping up good standards of uniform. If you have any query concerning this letter then please contact your child’s Head of Year. I am sure that by working together we can improve our standards of dress even more.
I would like to thank you for your support in this matter. Together we can encourage our students to try their best in all aspects of college life.
Yours sincerely
A Bodurka
