| It is another record breaking year at All Saints! Created: Fri 28th Aug 09 at 20:08:09, Last Update: Thu 1st Apr 10 at 15:11:22 |
Year 11 pupils at All Saints’ Catholic College are celebrating today after achieving another record-breaking year for GCSE results.
Anita Bodurka, Head Teacher, described the results as “A fantastic achievement for the pupils and their teachers”. She said, “All the students have worked really hard and I am thrilled to see they have done so well. These results demonstrate the significant and continuing improvement across all aspects of the school, and the professionalism and dedication of the staff. The College’s aim remains to build on its good practice and these results, in order to continue providing our students with a dynamic, personalised and high quality Catholic education.”
There was an increase in the number passing the benchmark standard of five A* - C passes to a very impressive 71%. Testimony to the commitment of the staff is the commendable improvement in the percentage of students achieving at least 5 A*-C grades including Maths and English to 50%, a 25% improvement on last year.
Anita Bodurka went on to say “I would like to thank John Fowler, who was Executive Head this last academic year, all the governors and the staff of the college who have worked so hard in helping the students and have continued to deliver improvements.”
Father Ian Smith, Chair of Governors said “I am also really pleased for the students’ families. They have supported us extremely well over the last five years and should be very proud of these results.”
The Top Ten performing students in alphabetic order were Martin Healy, Olivia Jackson, Stephanie Light, Ailish McVeigh, Dominic O’Brien, Stephen O’Hara, Harriet Peel, Yasmin Rejaei, Matthew Todd and Jozef Zaffino. Furthermore, we are delighted with the huge improvement the majority of our students have made from Year 6. In particular Reece McInerney, Frances Peel, Olivia Hodges, Josimar Bradshaw, Rugare Chingombe, Shakera Adams, Bradley Riley, Matthew Todd and Conor St John-Sykes who significantly exceeded national expectations in all areas.
Anita Bodurka concluded by saying “The last two years has shown a sustained improvement in our results. We will continue to work hard to meet the needs of all our students and help them on their journey to a successful future.”

| School Uniform UPDATE Created: Fri 12th Feb 10 at 09:35:02 | February 2010
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Here at All Saints we are very proud of our achievements. We set high standards in appearance, behaviour and work. The expectation is that students will rise to meet these standards and achieve to their full potential.
We have a college uniform which looks very smart when worn properly. This helps the students to look ready for the business of learning. It also prepares them for the world of work where many of them will have to follow a dress code.
It has come to my attention that whilst the majority of students make a real effort with their uniform, there are still many students who have to be constantly reminded about tucking in their shirts and keeping their top button fastened so that the tie can be worn correctly. In order to help improve this I would like you to ensure that your child has the correct type of shirt ready for college when we return after the February half term.
All students need to wear a proper white shirt with a collar that has a button. The shirt needs to be long enough to tuck into trousers or a skirt. The V-neck blouse worn by some girls is not appropriate because it was never designed to be worn with a tie. Likewise fitted blouses are too short and cannot be tucked into trousers or a skirt. Some students struggle to close the button because the shirt collar is too tight. I would appreciate it if you would check with your child that the collar fits properly and that the button can be fastened. We will be checking uniform when we return after half term. The expectation is that all students will be wearing the correct shirt, so that in turn, the tie can be worn properly.
I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that your child should also wear:
- Black socks
- Black school shoes (no pumps)
The grey jumper with our school badge is optional and should be worn underneath the blazer. Girls should ensure that if they choose to wear a skirt, then it should be knee length. Girls should not wear makeup for school and they are only allowed to wear one pair of small metal ear studs.
I am sure that you will do your best to support your child in keeping up good standards of uniform. If you have any query concerning this letter then please contact your child’s Head of Year. I am sure that by working together we can improve our standards of dress even more.
I would like to thank you for your support in this matter. Together we can encourage our students to try their best in all aspects of college life.
Yours sincerely
A Bodurka
Head teacher

| All Saints Choir - Bronze Triumph at World Choir Games 7-14 July 2008 Created: Tue 15th Jul 08 at 12:45:17 | When All Saints went marching in
College choir triumphs at World Choir Games 7-14 July 2008
The All Saints Catholic College Choir, Huddersfield, formed less than one year ago, has just returned from a major international choral competition with a medal! All Saints Catholic College Choir were awarded a bronze medal in the Youth Choir category of the World Choir Games held in Gratz, Austria.
Inspired by the BBC documentary ‘The Choir’, All Saints Catholic College, in conjunction with the OPAL foundation and the Diocese of Leeds, in September 2007, formed a choir ‘from scratch.’ In April 2008, All Saints Choir took first prize in the OPAL ‘Magic of Music’ competition in the Royal Albert Hall in London – their prize being an all expenses paid trip to Austria this Summer to compete in the World Choir Games.
All Saints Catholic College Choir, numbering 36 male and female singers, competed in the Youth Choir category against choirs from Europe, Africa, South America and Asia.
The choir sang four pieces: Shto mi e milo – traditional Macedonian, Flying Free – Don Besig, Anima Christi – Russian, Benedictus and Hosanna – Emily Crocker. The choir was conducted by Christopher McElroy (Assistant Director of Music, Diocese of Leeds) and accompanied on the piano by Dr Christopher Johns (Choral Director, Diocese of Leeds.) School music teacher, Catherine Lunn played the flute.
With over 400 choirs from 91 countries, the World choir games is the biggest international choral competition in the world. The All Saints Choir competed against choirs who had worked together for many years and who were a great deal older. Mary Nixon, Headteacher said, “The whole college community is bursting with pride at this success. We took the view that ‘participation was the greatest honour’, – but to triumph so spectacularly on the world stage is a moment these students and our college will savour for a very long time. We have already taken bookings for the Autumn!”
In addition to singing themselves, All Saints choir had many opportunities to explore singing styles and repertoires of other cultures, as well as interact with singers from across the globe!
Choir Director Chris McElroy said: ‘The choir have performed marvellously: Over the last year they have worked hard together as a team, inspiring each other to further develop their choral singing skills. The bronze medal which they have been awarded is richly deserved!’
